Medical College Trivandrum, 1992 MBBS batch

Harun Thomas has been working in the UK since 2004. He is an SHO in surgery. His Wife, Smitha is also a doctor, and they have a 3 year old daughter Riya. He tells me that Ajith Oommen is working with him in the Medicine department.

  Guess his private practice was so profitable he decided to expand... 

  Our college has a new maingate ! 

  Leema, who works as a consultant opthalmologist at the Mulamoottil eye hospital at kozhenchery was on maternity leave when I visited her.. 

  Susan completed her MD in pharmacology last month and resumed duty at the Cochin cooperative college where she is a lecturer in pharmacology. Her husband Sudeep is an engineer and they have 2 kids- Ansu and Sachin. They are settled in ernakulam. 

  Prasanth is currently doing his MD in pharmacology at our medical college, where he is also a lecturer ( looks like he and susan mani are going to give each other a run for their money to become a future HOD pharmacology of TMC :P ) Prasanth's wife- Maya is finishing up her MD in Ob/Gyn. They have a handsome 2yr old -HariGovind. Dr.Murukesan is retired from the Govt.service and is working at PRS hospital, while Dr.Retnavally is working at the Karakonnam medical college. Dr.Murukesan was all excited about an upcoming reunion of their batchmates in the UK in september... 

  JK, after completing a stint as a surgeon at Cosmo hospital, found time from his busy Exam preparations to visit me in trivandrum. 

Benny who has an extremely busy practice in trivandrum, found time to vacation in Dubai...he gave me an update on the trivandrumites, and sent a few pics....

Sunil R is a consultant anasthesiologist at Cosmo hospital, while Syamlal has just completed his DM in Neurology, and Sudhir is working in the Health Services.

Our dear Benny emailed me..he is a busy Assistant professor in community medicine at the Sree Gokulam Medical College. He has done his MD in Community medicine as well as a DPH. He is extremely busy with his Private Practice and I hear that it is so difficult to get an appointment to see him that sometimes the wait is at least 3 hours. He is happily married with 2 sons- Vaibhav and Vaishnav.

Archana Panickar has taken up an SHO job in Anasthetics at UK.

Doctor goes solo After six months at Meridian Medical Center, Dr. Shubi Shahida has opened her own practice in Smithfield, NC. Two days ago, Shahida began seeing patients at her new practice, where she specializes in general medicine and cancer prevention. Shahida also has admitting privileges at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Shahida's practice is at 712-A Wilkins St. Hours are 8:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. till 3 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call 989-9109.

Manu calls up out of the blue yesterday. He and Reshma are in Kent, UK. Manu is working as a Specialist Registrar in Anasthetics while Reshma is a General Practitioner. Their Daughter Anu is turning 6 soon !

Pradeep will be joining Duke University as a research fellow in Cardiology starting July 06.

Roshan recently surfaced after 4 years of hiding. He is currently doing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas, Houston/M D Anderson Center. He has a 2 year old son, Ryan.

FRANCIS, MD The benefits of aldosterone receptor antagonists (spironolactone and eplerenone) for patients with heart failure were shown in 2 recent randomized controlled trials. Some of the proposed mechanisms of action of aldosterone antagonists are (1) inhibition of myocardial and vascular remodeling, (2) blood pressure reduction, (3) decreased collagen deposition, (4) decreased myocardial stiffness, (5) prevention of hypokalemia and arrhythmia, (6) modulation of nitric oxide synthesis, and (7) immunomodulation. Like many hormone receptors, the aldosterone receptor can be either nuclear or membrane bound.
