USA East Coast Winter Meeting

Image
The North Carolina chapter of the 92batch in US hosted the 2007 east coast meeting. The main hightlights of the meeting included 1) condemning the poster denouncing Saddams hanging in medical college 2) a resolution to donate a copy of Campbells Urology to the Trivandrum medical college library did not pass through, since the person who "borrowed" it has agreed to return it to the college 3) The committee congratulated Dr. A P Subramoniam on his father being the project director of the team that succesfully reclaimed the PSLV capsule recently. A garland will be presented to Mr. Subramoniam when he visits the US next. 4) By a wafer thin margin, it was decided to admit Dr.Jayakrishnan nair into full membership of the 92batch USA division. This was possible after Dr. Nair succesfully demonstrated his ability to succesfully change gears of both manual indian as well as automatic US vehicles.

joy and sorrow for pradeeps dad

CNN --- CHENNAI, India (Reuters) -- India's space agency said on Monday an orbiting capsule had been successfully returned to Earth, marking a major step towards the development of a highly-prized manned space program. The capsule was blasted into space as one of four payloads on January 10 from a launch pad 60 miles north of the southern city of Chennai. It splashed down in the Bay of Bengal 11 days later, boosting plans for a lunar mission in 2008. "(It) landed in the Bay of Bengal ... as per schedule. The mission is a great success," said A. Subramoniam , head of the team that designed and built the capsule at the Indian Space Research Organization. "This mission is a stepping stone to design and build our very own reusable spacecraft, and eventually (carry out) manned missions into space, too," he said. Coast guard boats had already fished the capsule from the sea, another scientist said. Though India has for years been building communication and remote-sens

i guess the miracle is that we actually got our papers marked and results published on time...(courtesy keralatips.org) When pradeep used to say that the Harrisons textbook wasnt good enough to be used as toilet paper, i guess he had some inside info that there was a good stock of indigenous paper availabe at the kerala university building... on another note, this facility will be paradise for the bathroom reader who uses it :P

Trivandrum on google maps..

mourning Saddam in Medical College

Image
JK sent this picture adorning the walls of the principal's office building. Although i couldnt read the entire slogan, the Words "Saddam Rakthasaakshi" give you an idea about the general theme... the biggest irony will be of course if the people who stuck this poster decide to pursue medicine in the US. But at least there are no big medical strikes nowadays protesting private medical colleges..funny when the people who spearheaded these strikes are working for the very same private medical colleges they were so against earlier. but thats just my 2cents..

Suresh Gopi and pathaaka

In my zeal to reconnect with my favorite Suresh Gopi, I downloaded and watched pathaaka. Now i know its time to stop watching his movies. Not only was the movie outright boring, the last part was absolutely ridiculous. In an attempt to create some suspense a la DaVinci code- Sureshchettan ( the former industries minister) apparently also has extensive knowledge of symbology. At a murder scene he comes across a talisman- that he alone is able to identify as a " reverse pythagorean pentagram"- which he therefore deduces means the murderer was a devil worshipper who was trying to encourage "free sex" that would translate into unwanted pregnancies, which would in turn lead to more abortions and more placentae being discarded. Apparently the placentae have a huge market as a substrate for making top of the line cosmetics which the "evil nexus" was trying to market in Europe. I have nothing more to add, except that like a moth drawn to fire, i have started downl
