medical college labs online...

T'PURAM: Looking for a patient in the overcrowded labyrinthine wards of the Medical College here is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

From now on, it need not be.

All the details of the patients- the ward in which they are admitted to, the bed number and house address - are available on the tip of your fingers.

Just log on to www.healthkerala. gov.in and click on the link Medical College enquiry.

Not just this, the OP timings and name of doctors attending each OP everyday are also listed here.

This helps the people to plan their visit to the hospital from the comfort of their home.

With this, the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram has become the first government hospital in the state to go online with the details of the patients available on your finger tips.

Even the availability of the paywards and its rates are also listed here.

"This is just the first phase of our computerisation process. In the next phase we are planning to offer more facilities to the patients," Dr.C.Jayan deputy superintendent of the Medical College Hospital who is also the nodal officer of computer networking here told this website's News Paper.

Reports of investigations like biopsy, CT Scan, Ultrasound examination, etc, will be made available through a secure web page.

"A patient can type in his OP number and payment receipt number and get these reports at his home," said Jayan.

The main advantage; reducing crowd before the departments and speeding up therapeutic decisions.

Another development will be that patients will be given an option of registering online for OP ticket.

So that when they arrive at the hospital, the OP ticket will be ready. Online registration of paywards is also being planned.

Facilities will be provided to transfer the medical details of one patient from one institution to another like Regional Cancer Centre or Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences where the rest of the treatment might take place.
